Implantable Lenses- An Alternative to Laser Eye Surgery
Along with RLE, surgically implanted lenses, also referred to as phakic IOLs (intraocular lenses), are a growing option for many individuals that previously did not quality for conventional LASIK or CustomLASIK. The implants work much like a contact lens and even resemble a contact lens; are placed either in front of the iris or behind the iris - depending on the type of vision correction that is the goal of the procedure.
The patient can not fell a an implantable lens and zero maintenance is required. Implantable lenses are a growing alternative to conventional LASIK and also produce equal results in the majority of cases.
There are currently only two FDA-approved implantable lenses available in the United States:Verisyse which is attached to the iris (colored portion of the eye) and Visian ICL which is inserted behind the iris.
For the majority of patients, vision improves instantly.
